Just a moment to share a cool experience. My son caught his first salmon on a fly rod. A Chum Salmon on the Kilchis River outside of Tillamook, the northern coast of Oregon.

Wow!!! Did you eat it all, or did you have any Leftover Salmon? (Ha. Ha.)

Here's my kid's recent catch. Not anything close to your guy's river monster, but given that everything else that day before this was a frog (including one frog that got eaten in one gulp by a really gigantic frog that leaped up and snapped it off the hook), he was pretty pleased by this whatever-you-call-it. At least it didn't say "ribbit."

Check out the high-tech fishing gear :-)

Hah, no Leftover Salmon. We were catch & releasing the Chum Salmon. We did keep one Steelhead and cooked it that night. This was a Boy Scout outing so we all got a decent sized portion. Mmm, nothing like fresh fish caught that day and cooked outside.

A bamboo rod, the classic fishing gear, seriously. It's not about the expensive gear you can buy, it's getting out there and having fun that counts.

Very cool frog story. He looks pretty pleased with himself, as he should. Thanks for sharing the picture.

He was very excited. We came home and he told Mom it was the best weekend ever. Only way to make it better is if that was me in the picture with him. I'm the guy in the black coat furthest upstream. Just means we need to get out on the river again soon. ;-)
